3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. chopped nuts (walnuts)
1/2 c. applesauce
1/2 c. chocolate chips

Cream sugar and shortening. Stir in the egg. Sift together flour, soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Mix in nuts and chocolate chips and applesauce. Add to creamed mixture. Mix all together. Bake on greased cookie sheets at 375 degrees for about 10 to 15 minutes.

NOTE: You can use cinnamon applesauce if you desire.
