ICE WATER CAKE 
1/2 cup butter
2 cups granulated sugar
3 1/2 cups cake flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 cups ice water
1/4 teaspoon almond flavoring (optional)
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Cream butter. Gradually add sugar, beating until fluffy. Sift dry ingredients together. Add alternately with ice water and flavoring, if desired, to creamed butter. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.

Bake in 2 greased cake layer pans at 350°F for 30 minutes.

Makes 1 layer cake.
