GUMDROP FRUIT CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. applesauce, unsweetened
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda dissolve in a little hot water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
4 c. flour
1 c. walnuts fried in little butter
1 lb. white or dark raisins
2 lb. gum drops cut fine, dredge with a little flour

Mix together well. Bake in a slow oven for 2 hours at 225 degrees.
