WAR CAKE 
2 c. brown sugar
2 c. hot water
4 tbsp. shortening
1 c. raisins
1 c. nuts
2 tsp. cake spice
4 c. self-rising flour

Mix all ingredients. Bake in three 9 inch pans at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

EASY ICING:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1/4 c. milk
2 c. confectioners' sugar

Melt butter in saucepan; add brown sugar; boil over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir milk, bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Cool to lukewarm; add sugar. Beat until thick enough to spread. If icing becomes too stiff, add a little warm water.
