CANADIAN WAR CAKE 
2 c. brown sugar
4 tbsp. butter
2 c. hot water
1 box raisins
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg

Mix and let boil 5 minutes. Let cool; add 3 teaspoons cool water and 1 teaspoon baking soda. Mix well; add 4 cups flour. Bake at 350 degrees until well done. Makes 3 layers.

ICING:

2 c. brown sugar
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter
3/4 c. milk

Boil to soft ball stage. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat until cool enough to pour over cake.
