INCREDIBLE TURTLE BROWNIES
1 box German chocolate cake mix
1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels
2/3 c. evaporated milk
3/4 c. softened butter
1 c. nuts
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces

Combine caramels and 1/3 cup milk on top of double boiler. Stir until melted. (Microwave works well for this also.)

Combine cake mix, remaining milk and butter. Blend until mixture holds together. Stir in nuts. Press 1/2 of cake mixture in a greased 13 x 9 inch pan and bake for 6 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate pieces on top. Pour melted caramels evenly on top. Crumble remaining mix over caramels and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Cool slightly and cut into bars.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

OMG! These are INCREDIBLY wonderful. My son requested turtle brownies for his birthday care package, so I tried this recipe. Melting the butterscotch & milk together in the microwave worked really well, easier than dbl boiler. I rate this recipe as a 10!

I have been making these brownies for years. They are great. Everyone that tries them wants the recipe. The only thing I changed was I melted the caramels in the evaporated milk in the microwave instead of the stovetop. Works just as well. I also pat the top layer of cake mix out with my hands and place it on top of the brownies. I also sprinkle powdered sugar on top when they are done baking to make them a little prettier.

Lost this recipe and was sure I could find it again online. The two things I would recommend are walnuts as the nuts and get mini-morsels for the chocolate chips - they melt better!
