NORWEGIAN HOLIDAY BREAD | |
1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. milk 1 packet yeast 1/2 c. warm water 1/4 c. sugar 2 tbsp. honey 1 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. ground cardamom 1 c. raisins 1/2 c. citron or candied fruit 1 beaten egg 3 - 3 1/2 c. flour Heat butter in milk until melted. Cool to lukewarm. Soften 1 package of dry yeast in 1/2 cup warm water and sugar. Add to butter and milk mixture then add honey, salt, ground cardamom, raisins, chopped citron or candied fruit and beaten egg. Mix in 3 1/2 cups flour, let rise 1 hour. Punch down. Shape into loaf ring or loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. |
