OLD TIME FAVORITE FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
1 egg
1 c. sweet milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar

FILLING:

1 c. chopped raisins or figs
1 tsp. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. flour

Mix filling ingredients in saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thick. Burns easily. Let cool.

Next cream sugar and Crisco until fluffy. Mix in egg and vanilla. Beat well. Stir in milk. Sift flour with soda and cream of tartar and add to creamy mixture, work into a dough (if too sticky to roll, chill 20-30 minutes). Roll on lightly floured board, 1/8 inch thin. Cut into pairs with biscuit cutter.

Place 1 rounded teaspoonful of filling on one and top with other. Firmly press edges together. Bake on greased cookie sheet 15-20 minutes or until golden brown in 375 degree oven.
