BLACK BOTTOM PIE | |
18 graham crackers 5 tbsp. butter, melted 4 tbsp. cold water 1 tbsp. Knox gelatin 1 tsp. cream of tartar 4 egg whites, beaten 1/2 c. sugar 1 1/2 sqs. bitter-sweet chocolate, melted 1 1/2 tbsp. cornstarch 4 egg yolks 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 2 c. milk Cool Whip Crush crackers and mix with melted butter. Pat into 13 x 9 inch pan and bake at 300 degrees for 10 minutes. Mix Knox and cold water, set aside. Mix cornstarch, egg yolks, sugar, vanilla and milk. Cook until thickened. Add gelatin. Use half of this mixture and add chocolate. Stir well and pour over baked cracker crust. To the remaining mixture add the beaten egg whites (cream of tartar and sugar added). Pour over first layer. Refrigerate several hours. Spread Cool Whip for final layer. Top with grated chocolate. Serves 12. |
