PATITOS
Browned ground beef
Seasonings
1 pkg. taco seasoning
1/2 c. ketchup
1/2 c. water, approx.
Flour tortillas
Grated Cheddar or Colby cheese
Crisco oil
(You will also need toothpicks & metal tongs)

Brown the ground beef, drain fat and add the desired seasonings, taco seasoning mix, ketchup and water. The meat mixture should have a smooth consistency, not watery.

1. Remove twist tie from flour tortillas and warm them in the microwave in the plastic bag (about 1 1/2 minutes).

2. Fill the tortilla with a heaping tablespoon of meat.

3. Add cheese (sprinkle on).

4. Close the tortilla like a clam and secure it with 3 toothpicks.

5. The ingredients should be neatly pinned inside and not running out, otherwise your Crisco will pop when cooking the pastries.

6. Using a deep fryer or a big skillet filled with oil, you are now ready to deep fry the Patitos.

7. I do this by filling a lot of tortillas and having them ready for the hot oil. Nearby I have a large platter with paper towels to drain the tortillas when browned.

8. Brown the tortillas (not too brown) and drain on paper towels, when done remove toothpicks and open to add lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, etc.

9. Sounds like a lot of trouble, but they are Delicious!

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
