PLAIN WHITE ROLLS 
1 1/2 c. lukewarm water
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt
2 pkg. dry yeast
1/2 c. lukewarm water
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. melted shortening
7 to 7 1/2 c. flour

Mix first three ingredients. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Add yeast mixture to first ingredients. Stir in last three ingredients. Turn out on floured surface and knead 8 to 10 minutes or until dough is smooth. Place dough in a well greased bowl covered with a towel and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk. Punch down dough and form into three loaves or three dozen large rolls. Place dough in well greased pans and cover with towel. Place in a warm area and let rise until doubled in bulk. Bake at 350 degrees. Loaves take approximately 30 minutes. Rolls should bake approximately 20 minutes.
