APPLE BRAN COFFEE CAKE 
CAKE:

1 c. milk
1 c. bran (100% Bran - Nabisco)
1 egg
1/4 c. butter, melted
1 1/4 c. all purpose flour
1/3 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped apple

TOPPING:

1/3 c. bran
1/4 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
3 tbsp. butter, melted
1/3 c. pecans or walnuts, chopped

In small bowl, pour milk over bran; let stand 5 minutes. Blend in egg and butter.

In medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Add bran mixture, stirring just until blended. Stir in apples. Spread in greased 8" square baking pan.

To make topping, blend bran, brown sugar and butter. Stir in pecans. Sprinkle evenly over top of batter.

Bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Cool in pan on wire rack. If desired, drizzle with confectioners' sugar glaze.
