ORANGE SLICE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
4 eggs
4 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 c. pecans, chopped
1 (8 oz.) box chopped dates
1 (11 oz.) pkg. orange slice candy, chopped
1/2 c. flour

Cream sugar and shortening in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs mixing well after each addition. Add flour, soda, salt, and buttermilk; mix well. Toss pecans, dates and candy with 1/2 cup flour. Fold into batter. Pour into prepared 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 1/2 hours.
