ORANGE SLICE CAKE | |
3 1/2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates 1 lb. orange slices (candy) 1 (3 1/4 oz.) can coconut 2 c. sugar 4 eggs 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 c. buttermilk 2 c. walnuts or pecans, chopped 1 c. butter Mix dates, coconut and nuts with 1/2 cup of the flour and the salt. Stir well, to coat thoroughly, then add rest of flour. In another bowl, cream butter, sugar and eggs, adding 1 egg at a time. Beat well. Combine soda with buttermilk and add alternately with flour mixture to creamed mixture. Stir well at each addition. Fold in candy. Bake in 10 inch greased and floured tube pan at 300 degrees for 1 hour and 45 minutes. ORANGE GLAZE: 1/2 c. orange juice 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar Mix well and pour over hot cake. Cool, then keep in refrigerator overnight. |
