GINGER CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. molasses
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 c. strong coffee

Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg and molasses; mix well. Alternate dry ingredients with coffee. Spread in greased 9"x13" pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes. After removing from oven, spread warm cake with softened butter and sprinkle with granular sugar.
