BRAN FLAKE COOKIE 
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 c. veg. oil
1 c. shortening
3 c. flour
2 c. bran flakes
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. sour milk or buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond

Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg. Add soda which has been mixed in sour milk. Add vanilla and almond. Mix in flour and bran flakes. Press cookies down on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 325 degrees for 8 minutes.

Chewy and very good tasting. I left out the vegetable oil the recipe called for and used only Crisco shortening. I thought maybe the recipe meant either oil or shortening, though I can't imagine cookies like this being made with oil.

I also did not add the oil - it would have been super-greasy! I used half shortening, half butter. I also added a half-cup of raisins and a half-cup of chocolate chips tho it was also great without. I baked on lightly greased cookie sheets at 340°F for 10-12 minutes since they were still raw at 8 mins. I did not flatten them. I got 48 cookies and they were for a potluck where they were instantly gone!
