MY GRANDMOTHER'S SPICE CAKE 
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1/2 c. lard and butter (I use Crisco)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
Pinch of cream of tartar
1 c. sour milk (I use buttermilk)
2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Mix flour and spices together. Mix soda in sour or buttermilk. Add alternately with flour. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes, or when a toothpick comes out clean. Real old recipe, and delicious!
