APPLE BARS 
1 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. oatmeal
2 tbsp. butter
2 1/2 c. apples
1/4 c. sugar

Sift flour with salt and soda. Add brown sugar, mix in oatmeal. Cut in shortening until mixture is crumbly. Spread half of mixture in greased 7"x11" baking dish. Dot with butter. Add apples and sprinkle with sugar. Cover with remaining crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 or 50 minutes.
