BASIC SWEET ROLL DOUGH 
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 pkg. active dry yeast
1 c. milk
1/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs

Heat milk until warm (115-120 degrees), stirring to melt shortening. Add to dry mixture and add the eggs. Beat at low speed with electric mixer for 1/2 minute, scraping bowl, then beat 3 minutes at high speed.

By hand, stir in 1 1/2-2 cups flour to make a moderately stiff dough. Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth (8-10 minutes). Shape into a ball; place in a greased bowl, turning once. Cover, let it rise until double (45-60 minutes). Punch it down and divide in half. Cover, let it rise 10 minutes. Make rolls and bake at 375 degrees for 18-20 minutes. Drizzle with icing if desired.
