I have been using this recipe for at least 25 years. There has never been a time that I have made it that it did not receive rave reviews - it is delish! Preparing to make this again for a "pot-luck" and my recipe was not in its place - thank goodness for this website. It makes a generous amount if you are sharing, without doubling ingredients.

This recipe is awesome! It has always been a big hit. I also make it and substitute the butter beans with kidney beans, add more chili powder and call it chili. I lost my recipe but made it so often that I remembered the ingredients but not the measurements. I'm so happy that I found the exact recipe that I received in 1991 as a gift with a casserole dish. I usually let it sit in my Crock-Pot all day.

Made a quadrupled recipe for a very large family reunion - not one bite left in the pan.

I've used this recipe for several years. My mother gave it to me, but I don't know where she got it. I needed it for a block party, and I put it some place different but can't remember where I laid it down. Thanks for saving my day! Every time I've made it people have really raved about it, and it disappears quickly.

My mother cut this recipe out of the Parade Magazine that came in the Washington Post in the 80s. It has always been a go to for family get togethers and cookouts. Hearty enough to be an entree or a great side. For years it was our Christmas Eve dinner with pigs in a blanket while she wrapped gifts and we played poker. So delicious and a great reminder of family memories. Would give 10 stars if possible.
