DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 eggs
2 c. sugar
1 scant c. butter
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. hot water
1 tsp. baking soda
2 heaping c. flour
Flavoring

Mix cocoa and hot water. Put soda into buttermilk. Mix eggs, sugar and butter and cream well. Add flour, cocoa water, buttermilk and add flavoring. Bake in moderate oven (325-350 degrees).

FLUFFY ICING:

1 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 egg whites
3 tbsp. water
1 tsp. flavoring

Combine all the ingredients except flavoring in the top of double boiler and place over boiling water. Beat with egg beater 4 minutes, or until icing stands in peaks. Add flavoring.
