MARY ANN'S CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 sticks butter
1/2 c. Crisco
3 c. sugar
3 c. Swansdown cake flour (plain)
5 eggs, unbeaten, added 1 at at time
1/2 tsp. baking powder
Salt
1 tsp. lemon flavoring
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
1 c. plain milk

Cream butter and shortening, add sugar gradually and add cream. Add eggs, and dry ingredients alternately with milk. Add flavorings. You can make 8 layers or 4 layers. (1 cup batter makes the right size layer). Grease and flour your pans. Bake at 325 to 350 degrees for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, check after 1 hour. Cool layers and frost with:

FROSTING:

1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1/3 c. evaporated milk
1/2 c. chocolate chips

8 layers, make 4 batches, 4 layers, make 2 batches. Boil these ingredients for 1 minutes, don't overcook. Add chocolate chips. Beat with a spoon until smooth and spread on cooled cake.
