RUBY'S RYE BREAD | |
4 c. rye flour 1 c. grandma's molasses 1 qt. water Cook molasses and water to hard rolling boil stage. Add to rye flour; mix well and set aside to cool. WHITE MIXTURE: 1 c. sugar 2 c. lukewarm water 2 pkg. yeast Flour to make soft dough Mix sugar, yeast and lukewarm water together. Add white flour to make a soft dough. Let rise to double in size. Now mix 2 small tablespoons salt to rye mixture and add this to the white mixture. Mix well, adding white flour until you have a dough that you can handle. Knead well and put in greased bowl to rise to double in size. Work down and put in pans to rise to double in size. Then take a fork and make 8 punches in loaf to make it fall. Put in slow oven of 200 degrees to bake 1 1/2 hours. Makes 4 loaves of bread. |
