LAYER CAKE 
1 c. butter (or round butter)
2 c. sugar
5 lg. eggs
2 heaping c. White Lily plain flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. sweet milk
1 tbsp. vanilla

Cream butter, add sugar. Cream thoroughly. Add eggs one at a time. Add flour and milk alternately then vanilla. Makes 3-9 inch layers. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

CREAMY CARAMEL ICING:

2 1/2 c. sugar
1 stick butter
1 egg, slightly beaten
3/4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Melt 1/2 cup sugar in iron skillet until light brown. Mix egg, sugar, and butter. Add milk and cook until butter melts. Add browned sugar; cook until soft ball stage (about 20 minutes) is reached. Cool slightly and add vanilla.

Beat until it reaches spreading consistency. Add a little cream if it gets too thick.
