LUSCIOUS LEMON LAYER CAKE | |
1/2 c. shortening 1 3/4 c. sugar 6 egg yolks 2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. plus 3 tbsp. milk 1 tbsp. grated lemon rind Lemon Butter Cream Frosting Cream shortening; add sugar, beating well. Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating at medium speed of an electric mixer. Combine flour, baking powder, add salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in lemon rind. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until a wooden pick is inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes; remove layers form pans, and let cool completely. |
