MOLASSES RAISIN CHEWS 
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 cup raisins

In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Beat in molasses. Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt; add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk. Drop by heaping tablespoonfuls 2-inches apart onto greased baking sheets. Arrange three raisins on each cookie.

Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes or until set. Remove to wire racks to cool.

Yield: about 5-1/2 dozen.
