RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar

Cream together and add:

2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cocoa

sift together and add alternately with:

Add: 1 tsp. vanilla

Combine: 1 tsp. baking soda

Add last and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

FROSTING:

1 c. milk
3/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. flour
1 1/4 c. sugar

Combine milk and flour; cook until thick; stirring constantly. Cool. Cream shortening and sugar until light. Add vanilla and cooled flour mixture. Beat until stiff.
