OATMEAL ICE BOX COOKIES 
1 c. white sugar
1 c. light brown sugar
1 c. butter
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. chopped nuts, optional

Cream together sugars in large bowl. Add eggs and vanilla and mix. Sift flour, salt and baking soda. Fold into flour mixture oatmeal and nuts (if using) into butter, sugar mixture. Divide batter in half and shape into log. Wrap each log in wax paper. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or up to one week. Can freeze. Slice 1/4 inch thick. Bake on greased cookie sheet in 350 degrees until golden brown.

Makes 5 dozen.
