NANA'S MARBLE CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/3 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder (double acting)
1/3 c. milk and beat 1 minute
1 sq. chocolate
2 tbsp. water
1 tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. baking soda

In a large bowl, cream shortening, eggs, milk, and vanilla. Add dry ingredients: Flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Add remaining ingredient - milk.

To prepare chocolate: Melt chocolate, water, sugar, and baking soda. Add this to 1 cup of the prepared cake batter. Alternate the white and chocolate batters in a prepared square baking pan. Drag a knife (zig-zag) through the batter several times. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. No frosting necessary.
