1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. applesauce
1 tsp. baking soda
7 oz. chocolate chips
1 c. walnuts

Mix applesauce and soda together in separate bowl. Mix sugar, shortening and eggs. Add applesauce mixture, then add flour and spices that have been mixed together. Add nuts and chips. Drop by teaspoons on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 9 to 12 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen.
