SUBSTITUTE FOR NUTS 
Oatmeal, browned in a small amount of butter. Makes an economical substitute for chopped nuts in cookie, cake and pie recipes.

Love it! Used in carrot cake recipe, amazing! My daughter is three and a half but loves carrot cake, although she's developed an allergy to nuts, and carrot cake isn't as dense without that nutty flavour!

Great tip - I made a "Hummingbird Cake" and used the toasted oatmeal in place of nuts, they added nice flavor, the texture was fine and I didn't have to worry about allergies.
