FRUIT BARS 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. candied cherries (cut in halves)
1 c. chopped pitted dates

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, add eggs one at a time. Add vanilla. Add dry ingredients then fruit and nuts. Mix well and spread batter in a 9 inch square, greased pan. Make sure all pieces of fruit and nuts are evenly covered. Bake at 350 degrees about 45 minutes. Let stand until cool, cut into squares and roll in fine sugar.
