AN ORIGINAL (BUT NOT THE
ORIGINAL) MEAT PIE

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
5 sweet Italian sausages
1 med. onion
2 med. potatoes
3/4 c. beef gravy
1/2 tsp. sage
Pepper to taste
3 tbsp. oil

CRUST:

2 c. flour
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. water

Heat the oil in a large skillet. Dice the potatoes and fry them on all sides until tender. Dice the onion and add to the potatoes; cook until lightly browned. Drain thoroughly on paper towels and pour off remaining oil. Remove sausage from casings and crumble together with the ground beef in the skillet and cook on medium high heat until browned. Drain thoroughly on paper towels.

Combine the meat, onions, potatoes, gravy and seasonings. Line a large pie plate with one-half the crust. Pour in the filling. Cover with remaining crust, pinching the edges together. Make several slits to allow steam to escape. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
