DATE NUT BREAD 
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 tbsp. melted butter
1 egg
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. chopped dates
2 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Pour water over dates. Let stand for 20 minutes. Beat egg, add sugar and butter. Beat well. Strain water from dates into egg mixture. Sift flour, soda, and salt into mixture. Add chopped dates, nuts, and vanilla. Pour into large bread pans and bake 1 hour in 325 degree oven.
