1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
2/3 c. butter, softened
1 egg
1 1/2 c. Gold Medal all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. coarsely chopped nuts, if you like
1 pkg. (6 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips or 6 oz. semi-sweet or milk chocolate, chopped into pieces

1. Heat the oven to 375 degrees.

2. Mix both the sugars, butter and egg in a large bowl with a wooden spoon. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt (dough will be stiff); stir in nuts and chocolate chips.

3. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

4. Bake until light brown, 10 to 12 minutes. Let cookies cool slightly, then remove from cookie sheet with a spatula. Makes about 24 cookies.
