APPLE CRISP 
8 tart-sweet baking apples, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch wedges
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 c. chopped walnuts (optional)
1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1/4 c. corn oil butter, cut into bits
3 tbsp. wheat germ or oat bran (ground)
1/2 c. oatmeal

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease 9x13 inch baking dish. Toss apples, cinnamon and nutmeg and nuts. In medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and butter. Pinch mixture between fingers until mixture is blended to consistency of very coarse meal. Add wheat germ or oat bran and oats and mix well. Pinch off bits of topping and scatter over the apples. Bake 45 minutes until apples are tender and topping is crisp.
