POTATO BEEF CASSEROLE 
4 potatoes, peeled & sliced
3 lg. onions, coarsely chopped
4 sliced carrots
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 can condensed tomato soup
1/4 c. water
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

In a greased baking dish layer potatoes, onion, carrots and lean ground beef. Combine tomato soup with water, salt and pepper. Pour soup mixture over the top of the casserole. Cover and bake 1 1/4 hours at 350 degrees. Uncover the last half hour so liquid will thicken.

If that's the way you like it. Don't be afraid to do what you think is logical when you cook. A simple recipe of 2 or 3 lines expects that you will take extra steps to accomplish your goal. As a chef, we often consult books with simple directions and we are not told that we need to open the refrigerator before taking out the butter.
