"ZUSPAN" BUTTERMILK PIE | |
Use 9 inch pie pan. Place crust in pan and fill with the following ingredients: 3 eggs 1 c. sugar 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour 1/2 c. melted butter 1 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. vanilla Pinch of salt 1/2 tsp. nutmeg Beat eggs slightly and add sugar and flour. Then add melted butter and mix well. Add buttermilk and vanilla. Pour into pie shell. Bake at 325°F or until custard is set (about 45-50 minutes). Allow to cool before serving. My mother Anna Zuspan Gaskins made these for Dad and I. She didn't like Buttermilk, but we loved these pies. She didn't have any measurements, she just guessed on her amounts and they were always delicious. After she couldn't make them for me anymore, I started experimenting with amounts. When I took one to my sister Helen, she took a bite, and said "it tastes just like mom's". I knew then, I had it. Good luck. |
