ICICLE PICKLES 
2 gal. sliced cucumbers
1 gal. boiling water
1 tsp. salt
2 qts. white vinegar
8 c. sugar
1/2 c. mixed pickling spice

Cover cucumber slices with boiling water and salt. Stir every day for 7 days. Drain, cover with boiling water and lump alum. Let stand 1 day. Boil water, sugar, spices. Drain cucumbers and cover with boiling syrup. Drain and boil syrup for 4 days. Ready to can in hot sterilized jars. Well worth the extra work.
