BEST POUND CAKE 
1 c. butter
3 c. sugar
5 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
3 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. lemon extract
1/4 tsp. salt

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well. Combine baking powder and milk in a separate bowl; add alternately with flour to creamed mixture. Add flavoring, extract and salt. Mix well. Pour into greased tube pan or 2 loaf pans. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour or until done.

OPTIONAL - ICING:

1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. lemon juice
2 tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. grated lemon peel (opt.)
1 tbsp. water

Combine all ingredients; mix well. Spread over cake.
