NEW ENGLAND MEAT PIE 
1 lb. hamburger
1/4 c. chopped onions
1 lg. can tomatoes
1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 lg. can peas and carrots, drained
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp. parsley
Pinch of basil
Garlic salt (optional)
1 pkg. frozen hash brown potatoes
6 slices American cheese
butter

Brown hamburger in large skillet; add onions and seasonings also. When browned, add tomatoes, peas and carrots and tomato sauce. Let simmer 15 minutes. Pre-grease an 11x14 inch pan. Place potatoes in pan and bake at 350 degrees about 15 minutes. Dot top with butter. Pour meat mixture over top of potatoes and bake about 15 minutes. Add cheese slices last 5 minutes. Serve when cheese is melted.
