NEW ENGLAND MEAT PIE
1 lb. hamburger
2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce with onions
1 egg
1/4 c. dry bread crumbs
1 tsp. salt
1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen mixed vegetables, thawed
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 (12 oz.) pkg. frozen, thawed hash brown potatoes
3 tbsp. cooking oil
6 slices packaged sliced cheese, cut into 1/2 inch strips (Kraft American is good)

Combine hamburger 2 tablespoons of the tomato sauce, egg, bread crumbs, and salt; shape into 1 inch meatballs. Lightly brown meatballs; drain fat. Stir in the rest of the tomato sauce, mixed vegetables, thyme, and pepper; simmer 5 minute. Press the potato over bottom of 10 x 6 x 2 inch casserole, drizzle with oil and place under broiler until lightly browned.

Spoon meatballs mixture over potatoes, arrange cheese slices in lattice pattern on top. Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Makes 6 servings. You can use plain tomato sauce and add your own fresh or dry minced onions.
