1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolve in a little water
1 c. sweetened applesauce
1 1/2 c. raisins
1/2 to 1 tsp. anise flavor

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add egg, beat together. Add flour, salt, spices and the soda/water, mix. Add the raisins and anise flavor and mix. Bake in 9 x 13 pan for 35 to 40 minutes in 350 degree oven.
