BRAZILIAN COFFEE COOKIES 
1/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. milk
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. powdered instant coffee (freeze dried granules, ok)

Mix shortening, sugar, egg, vanilla and milk until fluffy. Stir in dry ingredients. Shape dough in 1 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.

Flatten with greased fork dipped in sugar or greased bottom of glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes until very lightly browned. Makes 4 dozen.
