BUTTER FROSTING 
1/3 c. butter
1 lb. powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 to 3 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

In a large bowl, cream butter. Add remaining ingredients. Beat frosting until smooth and spreadable. You may add the following ingredients for variations:

Chocolate Butter Frosting: Blend in 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa or 2 ounces melted unsweetened chocolate.

Chocolate - Cherry Butter Frosting: Blend 3 tablespoons drained, chopped cherries into batter.

Mocha Butter Frosting: Blend 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa and 1 teaspoon instant coffee.

Nut Butter: Add 1/4 cup chopped nuts.

Orange or Lemon Butter Frosting: Substitute 1 teaspoon grated orange or lemon peel for vanilla and 2 to 3 tablespoons juice for milk.

Peanut Butter Frosting: Cream 3 tablespoons peanut butter with the butter.
