AMISH SHOO-FLY PIE 
CRUMB MIXTURE:

1/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. flour

LIQUID MIXTURE:

3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
A little ginger, cinnamon and ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. molasses (dark)
3/4 c. hot water

Mix the shortening, flour and sugar for crumb mixture. Mix liquid ingredients well and add hot water. Into an unbaked pie shell, combine the crumbs and liquid in alternate layers with crumbs on bottom and top. Bake 15 minutes at 450 degrees, then 20 minutes more at 350 degrees. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
