BANANA DATE BREAD | |
1/4 c. shortening 1/2 c. sugar 1 egg, beaten 1 1/2 c. flour, sifted 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 c. mashed bananas 2 tbsp. water 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. dates, chopped 1/2 c. nuts Cream shortening and sugar, add egg, mix well. Sift flour with baking powder, salt and soda. Combine bananas, water and vanilla. Add to creamed mixture alternately with dry ingredients; mix well after each addition. Stir in dates and nuts. Turn into greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Remove from pan and cool well before cutting. Makes 1 (9 inch) loaf. |
