ENGLISH MEAT PIE
DOUGH:

4 c. flour
3-4 tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
Liquid to roll (milk)

CONTENTS:

2 lb. round steak (1" pieces)
2 onions, chopped
4 potatoes, chopped

Roll dough about 1/2 inch thickness. Add potatoes, onion and beef to 1/2 of the dough. Fold dough and seal. Put pie in a clean white cloth and secure with safety pins. Place in a soup kettle and cover with water. Bring to a slow boil and cook 3 hours. Remove carefully with a large spatula or use a rack in the kettle when steaming the pie. This dish takes time to cook but is a complete dinner with a salad and/or stewed tomatoes (cold). Also, Bisquick could be used for the dough to save time and effort. 4-6 servings.

This recipe was brought from England by my Great-Grandmother to this country in 1887. She used a large kettle over a fireplace to make it in England.
