2 c. sugar
1 heaping c. shortening
1 c. sweet milk
2 tbsp. baking soda dissolved in milk
2 eggs
1 tsp. cream of tartar
Vanilla
Nutmeg
Flour to make quite stiff (4 to 5 c.)

No method given in original recipe but if right amount of flour is used they roll out quite easily. Very tender and soft.
