MA'S OLD FASHIONED MOLASSES CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
2/3 c. molasses
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. ginger
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sour milk or buttermilk

In a large bowl, beat together sugar and shortening until creamy. Add one egg at a time and beat. Add molasses. Sift dry ingredients together three times. Add alternately with milk. Beat well.

Grease and flour an 8-inch square pan. Bake 50 to 60 minutes at 350°F.
